Colored pencils were once considered to be primarily for kids, throughout the years they have been steadily gaining respect amongst artists, galleries, and collectors. You probably used colored pencils when you were a kid, so you already have some degree of familiarity with them. But there is a big difference between artist grade colored pencils and the colored pencils made for children.
Professional artist-quality colored pencils contain a higher degree of wax and pigment than the colored pencils used by children. These pencils allow for a really rich, deep and luminescent color. Finished drawings can be so smooth and pigmented that they resemble paintings even more when they are used on wood.
This particular way to draw colored pencils on wood was developed by my super talented Mom, A.K.A one of the most amazing artists I've known ...and allows you to learn and control easily the pressure of the core into the wood, something much harder to do on paper. The warmth generated by the friction of the pencil on the wood makes the wax of the colored pencil penetrate the wood grain resulting in a painting like effect that is simply beautiful.
